2011 Standard Life's Big Search raises $260,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Montréal, June 10, 2011 – This year's edition of Standard Life's Big Search helped raise $260,000 to date in 2011 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. This is made possible through the creative fundraising efforts of employees and business partners alike. Year after year, participants help Standard Life contribute to Big Brothers Big Sisters' Canada-wide recruitment campaign for new youth mentors.
Standard Life has been organizing these original scavenger hunts in Montréal and Toronto since 2009. Last year, Standard Life was able to help Big Brothers Big Sisters attract more than 2,700 new applicants, over 500 of which are now new active mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a positive difference in the lives of children for nearly 100 years with its mentoring programs, which have proven to help reduce early school dropout, substance abuse and bullying.
"What if every child in Canada finished high school, went to college or university, got a job and gave back to their community?," asks Bruce MacDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. "Like Standard Life, we believe in the value and values of mentoring to strengthen our local communities. Serving as role models, our mentors show by example the importance of giving and giving back, staying in school and having respect for family, peers and community. But unfortunately there are many children that are still waiting for mentors and it's because of the passion and commitment of partners such as Standard Life that we are able to create awareness of the lack of mentors and promote the benefits of youth mentoring.
BIG thanks from Standard Life
