Standard Life Stepping Up for the Children
Montral, June 21, 2007 - The Foundation for Research into Children's Diseases wishes to thank and congratulate Standard Life, their personnel, the organizing committee and all of the partners and participants in the 25th Edition of the 5km and 10 km walk and run- Step Up for the Children with Standard Life.
While it is too early to determine the exact amount raised, Jean Tremblay, President of the Foundation, is confident that the goal of $365,000 will be met. The Foundation also advises the public that they still can contribute on line should they wish to do so at www.standardlife.ca/grandspas
On Saturday June 16, more than 400 runners and some 2500 walkers from more than 30 companies joined in the walk with Standard Life, and another 90 companies and organizations sponsored the event or contributed funds.
Mr. Tremblay pointed out that Standard Life assumes all of the costs related to the event, "In this manner, each dollar raised goes directly to pediatric research at the CHU Sainte-Justine, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Qubec and the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke."
The results of the Step Up for The Children with Standard Life will be announced live at the Telethon for Research into Children's Diseases which will be broadcast on December 1 and 2, 2007 on CTV-Montreal and TQS.
The Foundation supports research at four hospitals in Quebec: The Montreal Children's Hospital, Ste-Justine Hospital, and the pediatric research centres at the CHUQ in Quebec City and the CHUS in Sherbrooke. The Foundation is the most important source of non-governmental funding for pediatric research in Quebec, having distributed $53 114 000 to support children's health research since its first Telethon in 1977.
